Trains against cars in the land of Heidy: a sustainable bargain!08-01-2009
One Swiss family out of 5 don’t own a car. This is what a Swiss study conducted by the Swiss Club without cars (CAS) has revealed. Around 30% have made a conscious choice to live without a car for ideological (ecological?) reasons. This choice is not only good for our environment but also for the purse: A Swiss family spends Sfr. 265.—in average per month for transportation against Sfr. 128.—for those who don’t own a car. When I asked the audience at the end of my presentation to think and write on a piece of recycled paper what three new year’s resolutions could they commit to that would be good for the planet, there was a great amount of energy, discussions and ideas in the room. At the time of sharing, the audience enthusiastically read their resolutions with great pride. It seemed like by writing them and telling to others that “next year I commit myself to...« We don't live in peace. We live in pieces »
